YWAM Harpenden DTS

By admin

The first outreach team to come to Bristol came in September from YWAM Harpenden’s July DTS. 8 people from 6 different nations came for 2 weeks to bless and encourage us, and that’s exactly what they did. We felt led to connect them with a church in south Bristol, Victoria Park Baptist church as we wanted to invest in that part of the city.  Like many churches in Bristol, Victoria Park Baptist church is a lovely church with wonderful people.  It was great to be able to partner with and encourage them.

It was a fantastic couple of weeks with such a mixture of ministry.  The team served local people through gardening projects, did street evangelism, helped to lead the church youth groups, served at the churches food-bank and toddler groups, took part in the church services, invested in prayer walking of the area, and ran a day’s activities for young people who had a teachers training day at their school and so had no school for a day!

As this was our first team one of the ways we wanted to use them was to try out different types of ministry in Bristol to see what is effective.  A few times we simply spent time in worship together before asking God what He would have us do.  It was wonderful to see what happens when we are available to the Lord.  God used us.  Whether it was through giving out roses and praying with people, blessing someone with a voucher for a cafe, or simply asking students what love is.  The team was wonderful, they really gave themselves to the city and poured themselves into the lives of the young people connected with the church.  As for us at YWAM Bristol, we learnt a lot through them about hosting outreaches in Bristol and are really looking forward to hosting more.
